BIG RAPIDS — An up and down season that clicked in the final weeks came to a close for the Boyne City girls soccer team Wednesday, June 4.

The No. 7 ranked Cougars controlled most of the possession throughout the night against the Ramblers, leading to a heavy workload for keeper Piper Oliver in net.

The loss closes out an 11-8-2 season for Boyne City, while Grand Rapids Catholic Central moves on to the regional final round against what would have been a familiar foe for Boyne.

The Cougars will meet Traverse City St. Francis at 6 p.m., Friday, June 6 in Big Rapids for the final.

While not a large senior class, Boyne’s group of four seniors were talented, led by Michigan Tech soccer signee, Braydin Noble. Other seniors included Jacky Dunlap, Norah Frasz and Adie Patton.

Boyne City also finished third within the Northern Shores Conference this season at 6-4-2.

RUDYARD — You won’t find many close games on the Harbor Light Christian baseball schedule over the course of the 2025 season.

Particularly at the Division 4 level, the Swordsmen (25-4) have been rolling teams throughout the past couple months.

But, this is the time of year where the challenges that the Swordsmen did schedule can pay off.

They did so Wednesday, June 4 in a regional semifinal up against Pickford, when the Swordsmen put five runs on the board in the eighth, then held off a surge from the Panthers to advance with a 5-2 win.

The game went into extra innings scoreless through seven, before a Daniel Urman single broke the drought.

Urman finished the game 2 for 4 with that RBI, then Atticus Cadarette, Caleb Chamberlin and Gerrit Boerman all added an RBI each.

Urman also started on the mound, going five innings with five strikeouts and four hits allowed, then Will Paulus earned the win across three innings and four strikeouts, surrendering three hits and a walk.

Pickford got on the board late behind a pair of RBIs from Gunner Bennin, who doubled in a 2 for 4 game, hen Owen McConkey went 3 for 3 with a run.

Carter Rye also pitched a strong seven innings for the Panthers, giving up two hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Harbor Light moves on to face No. 9 ranked Norway, who is looking to return to the state championship in Division 4 after a 26-4 season. They’ll meet in a regional championship in Rudyard at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 7.

Gaylord St. Mary will take on East Jordan in the other regional final at Noon, with a 2 p.m. quarterfinal then following.
