STURGIS — For the second consecutive week, a Sturgis High School female student-athlete has been voted as athlete of the week.
This week, Bella Currier earned the top overall honor. Currier was nominated for the athlete of the week, presented by our friends at Glen Oaks Community College. Currier had an impressive record of 15-0 prior to the poll being posted on sturgisjournal.com and improved upon that as well.
Currier now sits at 16-0 for the season as the fourth singles player for the Trojan tennis team.
Sturgis is hosting the Wolverine Conference Championships on Saturday. The matches will be played at Augspurger Courts and the middle school tennis courts as well.
For athlete of the week purposes, Currier logged 51.07 percent of the total votes cast. She earned 9,991 total votes for the week.
Finishing second overall was Caleb Hohn of Sturgis, he earned 7,654 total votes (39.12 percent).
Gavin Lewis was third (1,224 at 6.26 percent), Berkley Holtz was fourth (600 at 3.07 percent). Three Rivers’ Olivia Wenzel and London Hoffmaster were also nominated this past week.
The poll is brought to you weekly by our friends at Glen Oaks Community College. Last week’s winner was Angela Cary of Sturgis track.
Athlete of the week polls are presented weekly by our good friends at Glen Oaks Community College. The polls have been spread out throughout different start times through those weeks as we look for the best results for interraction.
This coming week’s poll will be posted on Monday afternoon.
