Allison Ulanowski's pitching has Howell softball in KLAA West hunt

Junior Allison Ulanowski pitched eight innings of no-hit shutout softball over two games during Howell’s 11-0, 10-0 sweep of Novi on Wednesday, April 22.

Ulanowski threw all five innings in the first game, striking out nine and walking one. In the second game, she threw the first three innings and struck out three without issuing a walk. She also drove in two runs in the nightcap.

Ulanowski has allowed only two earned runs in 34 innings, both coming in the season opener. She hasn’t given up an earned run in her last seven appearances. Ulanowski has 34 strikes, allowing only 14 hits and four walks.

Leighton Scott drove in six runs in the opening game, the last four coming on a grand slam that ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Howell improved to 7-1 overall and in the KLAA West. The Highlanders are in third place behind the next two teams on their league schedule, Salem and Northville, who are each 6-0. The Highlanders will host Salem at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 before hosting Northville at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.

Northville 2-9, Brighton 0-4

Brighton freshman Bailey Hill kept fourth-ranked Northville scoreless for six innings in the opener before the Mustangs scored two in the top of the seventh. She pitched 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief in the second game.

Sammie Janssen had two RBIs in the nightcap for Brighton.

Plymouth 8-5, Hartland 5-4

Reese Dunny was 5-for-7 in the doubleheader for Hartland (1-10), while Kaitlyn Brennan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game.

Fowlerville 4-7, Williamston 3-4

Fowlerville’s Rylee Gulledge threw a no-hitter in the first game and a two-hitter in the second, striking out 18 and walking six.

Annabelle Szumlinski was 3-for-4 and Kiely Davis drove in two runs in the second game for the Gladiators.

Baseball

Plymouth 11, Hartland 3

Tyler Decheim and Ryan Cheyne each had two hits for Hartland (8-4).

Northville 6, Brighton 0

Aden Bailey and Chase Inge were both 2-for-3 for Brighton (8-4).

Novi 3, Howell 1

Conner Provenzino was 2-for-3 for Howell (11-4).

Adrian 4, Pinckney 1 (11 inn.)

Easton McGlothin was 2-for-4 for Pinckney (4-6).

Whitmore Lake 5, Charyl Stockwell 1

Charyl Stockwell’s Cole Dryer was 2-for-3 and pitched two innings of no-hit shutout relief, striking out five.

Boys lacrosse

Brighton 19, Howell 1

Maddox Marlatt had seven points, Joey Skoczylas six and Luke Blow five for Brighton (8-0). Ryan O’Dea had the only goal for Howell.

Girls lacrosse

Northville 21, Howell 4

Evie Nicholas and Ryleigh Gehringer each scored two goals for Howell.

Boys track and field

Pinckney 83, Ypsilanti 53

Adrian 78, Pinckney 59

Pinckney’s Sam Burtts swept the hurdles, winning the 110-meter highs in 15.03 seconds and the 300s in 45.51. He was also second in long jump at 19 feet, 2 inches.

Austin Ouillette was second in both hurdles and won pole vault with a leap of 11-9. Cole McCraw won the 3,200 in 9:46.67 and was second in the 1,600 in 4:39.31. Gunnar Curtis won shot put at 41-5 and was second in discus at 118-9.

Haslett 73, Fowlerville 64

Fowlerville had two sophomore long jumpers clear 20 feet, with Jacob Hodge winning at 20-5 and Kellen Douglass taking second at 20-3.5. They are the only two long jumpers in Livingston County to break 20 feet this season.

Connell Hardenbrook won the 400 in 52.08 and was second in the 200 in 23.92. Douglass won the 100 in 11.99.

Northville 116, Howell 21

Krystian Kubicz won the 110 hurdles in 15.86 and Logan Buchanan won high jump at 5-8 for Howell’s only victories.

Girls track and field

Pinckney 121, Ypsilanti 16

Pinckney 102, Adrian 35

Pinckney’s Davea Crowe won the 100 hurdles in 49.03, 300 hurdles in 49.03, the 200 in 27.23 and was on a winning relay. Jaelyn Ray won the 1,600 in 5:08.49 and the 3,200 in 11:14.40, while Emily Clark won the 100 in 13.66, pole vault at 8-6 and was on a winning relay.

Fowlerville 77, Haslett 60

Sophomore Makenna Click won the 100 in 13.50 and was second in the 200 in 28.29 for the Gladiators. She was also on a winning relay.

Northville 113, Howell 24

Emma Kanka had Howell’s only first-place finish, winning shot put at 36-6. Sophia Klask was second in both hurdles for the Highlanders.

Boys golf

Pinckney 167, Ann Arbor Skyline 181

Pinckney freshman Ben Karolak took first place with a 37. Alex Swinton and Emmett Edin shot 42s for the Pirates.

Girls tennis

Hartland 6, Lakeland 3
