Six people died, and the condition of others was unclear following a crash on Aug. 12 about 20 minutes outside of Bay City.
Police were called about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Vassar and Fairgrove roads in Gilford Township, according to a news release from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office.
An initial investigation indicates a pickup truck with three people failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the release posted to social media.
It crashed into a van carrying 10 people, the sheriff’s office said.
Passengers were ejected from the pickup and the van, the sheriff’s office said.
As of the evening news release Aug. 12, six people were confirmed dead.
The sheriff’s office said, at the time, that the conditions of the other occupants were unknown. WNEM reported two others were seriously injured.
The incident remains under investigation, and further information was not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office highlighted the need to follow the rules of the road in its news release.
“Please keep those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts,” the release stated. “These incidents are preventable and people need to slow down and obey traffic laws.”
