The results released on June 2 include all votes cast at the polling places on or before that day, along with absentee ballots that were submitted in advance of the election. What to know about the Assembly 42 District race
The California State Assembly’s 42nd District covers most of east Ventura County, including Thousand Oaks, Moorpark Simi Valley and parts of Camarillo. The district also includes parts of neighboring Los Angeles County, including Calabasas, Malibu and Agoura Hills.
The seat is currently held by Jacqui Irwin, who is termed out of office and is running for U.S. Representative in District 26. (Link to Tony’s story if published before this one)
Three candidates, one Democrat and two Republicans, threw their hats into the ring to replace Irwin and represent over 517,000 Californians.
In California’s “jungle primary” system, the top two finishers in the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their political parties, meaning two Republicans can face off against each other in November if they both receive the most votes.
