Kylian Mbappé passes Lionel Messi for World Cup all-time goals lead

MIAMI GARDENS — At least for now, France’s Kylian Mbappé is the all-time World Cup goals leader.

Mbappé scored twice against England in the second half of the World Cup third-place match on Saturday, July 18 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Mbappé’s second goal, which cut England’s lead to 4-3, was the 22nd World Cup goal of his career, surpassing Lionel Messi for most all-time.

Earlier in the half, Mbappé’s first goal also broke a tie between the French superstar and Messi for the lead in the Golden Boot race. Mbappé now has 10 goals at 2026 World Cup, two clear of Messi.

Of course, Messi still has one more match remaining at the 2026 World Cup. His Argentina squad will face Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19 in New Jersey.
