An 83-year-old Glenford man was killed and two others were injured July 16 in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Perry County, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Lancaster Post responded around 11:30 a.m. July 16 to the intersection of Ohio 204 and Ohio 668 in Hopewell Township.
According to highway patrol’s preliminary investigation, Thomas Shafer, 83, of Glenford, was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 northeast on Ohio 204 when a 2019 Ford E-350 traveling south on Ohio 668 entered the intersection. Investigators said the van’s driver, Brandon Salyers, 30, of Gahanna, failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by Shafer’s pickup.
After the collision, the E-350 traveled off the left side of the road, striking a culvert, a ditch and a building. Shafer’s pickup left the right side of the roadway and struck a traffic sign.
Shafer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Salyers was taken to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. A juvenile passenger riding in Shafer’s pickup was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, according to the highway patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
