Second El Mirage shooting leads to suspect’s attempted murder arrest

A Littlerock man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police said he allegedly fired a weapon multiple times at another individual in the High Desert area of El Mirage.

A similar event occurred in El Mirage in May, when a man was wounded and hospitalized following a car-to-car shooting and collision, the Daily Press reported.

Law enforcement officials reported that at 5:46 p.m. on July 12, Victor Valley Station deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Mountain View Road and Colusa Road in El Mirage.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said they received information that a man, later identified as Danny Kirkman, 66, had fired a gun toward another man before fleeing the area in a Polaris RZR.

Sheriff’s Aviation 40K located the RZR and observed Kirkman allegedly holding a firearm. Deputies later arrived at the scene and safely arrested him, sheriff’s officials said.

An investigation determined the two men had been involved in an argument before Kirkman allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun at the victim. During a search of the RZR, deputies located two handguns, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies authored a search warrant for Kirkman’s RV, which he had been camping in, and “where an additional shotgun was located,” sheriff’s officials stated.

Kirkman was arrested and taken to the High Desert Detention Center, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the sheriff’s statement.

Previous El Mirage shooting

Earlier this year, gunfire, which was being investigated as an attempted murder, was first reported about 9:10 p.m. on May 7 in the area of Chamisal Street and Smith Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said.

Deputies responded and encountered a van and a sedan that had been abandoned just west of the intersection.

“During an area check, they located an adult male victim who had been shot,” she said. The 38-year-old man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

“Through investigation, deputies learned the victim had been driving [the van] when he was shot,” according to Orejel. “The vehicles collided and the victim exited his vehicle.”

The occupant or occupants of the suspect vehicle also fled the scene on foot and were not found.

No further details were available at that time as the investigation continued.
