The San Francisco 49ers struggled to get much pressure on opposing quarterbacks last year, as they finished with the fewest sacks of any team in the NFL, and while the team will get Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams back from torn ACLs, they could still use more help.
Luckily, the 49ers have a ton of cap space and a slate of eight draft picks in 2027 to trade if they were interested in acquiring a veteran on the edge.
Interestingly, Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon predicted that San Francisco will make a deal with Las Vegas Raiders to bring in defensive end Maxx Crosby.
Crosby, 28, played at Eastern Michigan from 2015-18, earning All-MAC honors twice, before the Raiders took him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft (No. 106 overall).
Over the last seven years, he’s recorded 439 tackles (133 for a loss), 164 quarterback hits, 69.5 sacks, 29 passes defensed, 11 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception. He’s also made five Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams.
Las Vegas already agreed to Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason, but the Ravens backed out after the defensive end failed a physical, so it’s clear they’re willing to move on.
Now, the price, which was a pair of first-round picks, has likely gone down a bit, which would benefit the 49ers. Bringing in Crosby to rush along with Bosa, Mykel Williams, Keion White and Sam Okuayinonu would absolutely bring the team out of the basement of the league in terms of sacks.
