Key question on Colts' OL has major implications for rest of the offense

With training camp drawing closer, we will be highlighting the one big question that faces each of the Indianapolis Colts’ position groups.

Up next is the offensive line unit, which features a new starter at right tackle.

How does Jalen Travis fare as the Colts’ starting right tackle?

With Braden Smith leaving in free agency, Travis is the expected starter at right tackle for the Colts.

A fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Travis will be entering his second season and was able to hold his own when opportunities came his way as a rookie.

Taking over for Smith late last season following an injury, Travis started the final four games of the season. In those contests, Travis held his own, allowing one sack and 12 pressures over 175 pass-blocking snaps. He also graded out well as a run-blocker by PFF’s metrics.

“I’m really impressed with him, and I thought he stepped up big for us last year,” Quenton Nelson said of Travis, via Colts.com. “He’s going to stay on track and be even better this year.”

Naturally, all eyes will be on Daniel Jones and the Colts’ skill position players, but consistent success for any offense begins up front with the offensive line providing a run game to lean on and time in the pocket for the quarterback.

Without those elements, moving the ball becomes a real challenge. With Travis playing one of the game’s most important positions, whether he plays well or struggles, the Colts will feel the effects of that.
