Palafox Market’s Summer Pop-Ups series returns tonight in downtown Pensacola offering fresh local produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, hand-crafted art and more.
The special summer event will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday in July at the Plaza Ferdinand.
“The Summer Pop-Up series is designed to bring the energy and variety of the Saturday market to the heart of downtown during the summer season, while providing additional opportunities for local makers, growers and artists to connect with the community,” Palafox Market shared in a statement.
Summertime just got a lot sweeter in downtown Pensacola with the addition of Palafox Market’s Summer Pop-Ups series taking place every Wednesday in July.
The wildly popular market, specializing in fresh local produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, hand-crafted art and more, typically only operates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays in two locations: Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza (Palafox Market North) and Plaza Ferdinand (Palafox Market South). However, shoppers will have an extra opportunity to shop from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in July only at the Plaza Ferdinand (Palafox Market South) location.
Palafox Markey typically only operates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays in two locations: Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza (Palafox Market North) and Plaza Ferdinand (Palafox Market South). The market is not only a popular weekend destination for locals, but has also earned widespread recognition across the Southeast since its launch in 2007, including being named Southern Living’s “Florida’s Best Farmers Market.”
The diverse market attracts thousands of visitors annually.
“Summer Pop-Ups are a fun way to experience the market in a different setting and at a different pace,” said Walker Wilson, executive director of the Downtown Improvement Board. “Whether you’re picking up fresh ingredients for dinner, shopping for unique local gifts, or simply enjoying an evening downtown, there’s something for everyone.”
Palafox Market’s growth to Plaza Ferdinand
Pensacola’s Palafox Market has only continued to grow over the years, including the expansion to Plaza Ferdinand in May 2024.
The Saturday sister market operates under the same name and hours, helping to alleviate a growing vendor waitlist and provide more opportunities for small business owners.
Pensacola’s City Council voted unanimously in March 2024 to expand the market, amending a 1987 vote that heavily restricted use of Plaza Ferdinand “in order to preserve its landscaping, historical attributes, and general beauty.”
Mayor D.C. Reeves made the case to council members that it is possible to preserve the history and beauty of the park while also using it as an asset to make the city more economically and culturally vibrant.
Wilson said the expansion aimed to provide more variety for the consumers, more money for the city, more opportunities for vendors and more foot traffic for the surrounding businesses.
