The 250th anniversary of America’s founding was as divisive as most of President Donald Trump’s second term.
Many of the celebratory plans for the country’s anniversary were met with criticism and controversy, from pushing a $250 bank note featuring Trump’s face to the Freedom 250 festival losing multiple musical acts after they felt it became political.
Later, in front of Mount Rushmore on July 3, Trump gave a speech claiming every country and every world leader now respects the United States, as well as warning the crowd about the “communist” threat posed by progressive Democrats.
“On the eve of this 250th anniversary of American liberty, we resolve and swear for all to hear that the citizens of the United States of America will vanquish Communism from our shores and send it into exile once and for all. America will never be a communist country,” he said.

The Rasmussen Reports
Updated on April 1, the poll showed 42% approval and 55% disapproval of Trump. The poll included 1,500 likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
Silver Bulletin
The latest average released by Nate Silver’s “Silver Bulletin” newsletter on July 8 has Trump’s approval rating at 39.3% and a disapproval rating of 56.9%. The average included 10 polls.
The Economist
The weekly Economist/YouGov poll found 38% approved of Trump’s job performance and 58% disapproved. The poll was conducted from June 26 through June 29 among 1,606 citizens, with a margin of error of approximately 3.2 percentage points.
A Morning Consult poll
Conducted June 28, the poll showed that 43% approved and 54% disapproved. It surveyed 2,200 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.
RMG Research/Napolitan News Service
The poll conducted on June 22 through June 29 showed a 43% approval rating and a 55% disapproval rating. It polled 3,000 registered voters and reported a sampling error of +/- 1.8 percentage points.
The American Research Group
The poll shows that in June 2026, 30% approved and 66% disapproved. They surveyed 1,100 U.S. adults from June 16 through June 20 with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.

A president’s approval rating reflects the percentage of Americans polled who approve of the president’s performance. Anything can affect a president’s rating, including legislation passed, actions taken, and elections held.
According to ABC News, an approval rating doesn’t just reflect how well the administration is performing for the general public; it can also influence the outcome of an upcoming election and the extent of a politician’s accomplishments during their time in office.
How does Trump’s approval rating compare with his first term?
Trump ended his first term in 2021 with a final approval rating of 34%, the same as former presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.
According to Gallup polling, Trump’s approval average was 41%. They noted that he is the only president not to have received a job rating of 50% or higher at any point during his presidency.
