Macomb Co. man wins $1M prize in new Cash Train instant lottery game

A Macomb County man won $1 million in the Michigan Lottery’s new “Cash Train” instant game.

“You never think this type of thing will happen to you, so I’m still in disbelief,” the 73-year-old said in a statement issued Tuesday by the Michigan Lottery. “Thanks to my big win, I’m financially set for life.”

The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, recently bought the ticket at the Country Party Store on Greater Mack Avenue in Saint Clair Shores, according to Michigan Lottery officials.

He said he bought a ticket for the game when it first came out and won $50. He opted to buy another ticket when he was cashing out at the same store a few weeks later.

“I scratched all the numbers on the ticket first, and once I was done, I scratched the winning amount,” he said. “As soon as I saw letters instead of numbers where the prize amount was printed, I knew I won big! I started shaking and couldn’t believe it was real.”

Lottery officials said the winner recently visited their Lansing offices to claim the prize, taking it as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000. He told them he plans to save his winnings.

Players have won more than $6 million playing Cash Train, which launched in July, Michigan Lottery officials said. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $39 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 19 $10,000 prizes, and 71 $1,000 prizes.

In 2025, Lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.

The Cash Train winner is among the latest to win at a state lottery instant game in Michigan.

In June, a St. Clair County woman won $1 million with a scratch-off ticket from Speedy Q Markets in Port Huron. A 46-year-old Calhoun County man also won a $1 million after buying a Millionaire Maker ticket at Lakeview Liquor in Battle Creek.

Also in June, an Oakland County man won more than $1 million with a ticket for a Detroit Lions-themed lottery game.

Earlier the same month, a Wayne County man won half a million dollars with an Emerald 7s instant game ticket.
