National Trust Recognizes Detroit Landmark
Detroit and the Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs building on East Ferry are among the places recently received a grant from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since its founding in 2017, the fund has raised more than $200 million and supported more than 430 preservation projects dedicated to protecting Black heritage nationwide. This year, it awarded funding for 27 historic sites and organizations across the United States. Built in 1913, the Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs building was also listed on the National Trust’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in America in 2026. “Historic places help us understand who we are as a nation,” said Brent Leggs, president and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and founder of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. “These grants are investments in communities that are preserving the full American story — from the struggles for freedom and civil rights to the achievements of Black educators, architects, entrepreneurs, faith leaders, and culture bearers. Gorman’s Announces Sale and Troy and Southfield Closings
Gorman’s Home Furnishings & Interior Design recently announced a consolidation that will include the closing of its Troy and Southfield showrooms and a store closing sale that begins Aug. 15. Summer Saturdays at Griffin Gardens through Sept. 5
