July is packed with a fair, festivals, events around the Hornell area

The fireworks don’t end on the Fourth of July.

An array of festivals, fairs, rallies and community celebrations will keep the sparks flying all month long around Allegany and Steuben counties.

In Hornell, the YMCA will celebrate a milestone year, while a classic sports car rally will further cement the Maple City as the Mustang mecca of the Finger Lakes Region.

If fireworks are your thing, there’s no shortage of them, with events in Arkport, Angelica and Wellsville planning to light up the nighttime summer sky.

And it wouldn’t feel like July without a visit to the “fair with a country smile.”

Here’s a look ahead at some of the big events to put on your July to-do list, along with dates and times, as well as how to learn more.

July 10: Battle of the Badges

The annual charity softball game pits the Hornell police against Hornell firefighters for city bragging rights. First pitch at 7 p.m. at Maple City Park. Pick up tickets from any Hornell firefighter or police officer or at the gate.

July 10-12: Arkport Summerfest turns 40

The only Arkport in the USA hosts its 40th annual Summerfest with events scheduled over three days including a block party, parade, festival in the Arkport Village Park and Chemung Valley Antique and Classic Car Show.

July 11: Hornell Area Family YMCA 175th Anniversary

The YMCA celebrates 175 years of strengthening the community with a day of fun, family and memories.

July 11: Town of Angelica America 250 celebration

One of the oldest Allegany County communities marks the USA sesquicentennial with a parade, street dance, historical presentations and fireworks.

July 11: Great Wellsville Balloon Rally Parade

A week-long celebration of hot air balloon flight gets started with the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally parade at 11 a.m. on Main Street in Wellsville.

July 17-19: Great Wellsville Balloon Rally

The 47th annual Great Wellsville Balloon Rally is held over three days at Island Park in the village of Wellsville. Free admission, up to four mass hot air balloon launches, Main Street festival, balloon glows and Saturday night fireworks.

July 20-25: Allegany County Fair

The Allegany County Fair returns for the 181st edition at the fairgrounds in Angelica. Packed with exhibits, demonstrations, 4-H programs, carnival food, Midway rides, games and grandstand shows.

July 31-Aug. 1: Mustang Rally of the Finger Lakes

The 17th annual Mustang Rally of the Finger Lakes returns to Hornell for the second consecutive year. Drivers have the opportunity to take their Mustangs around the historic Watkins Glen track during a special track session on July 31. Mustang show at Veterans Memorial Park at James Street on Aug. 1.
