North Rockland's Tara Murphy leads 2026 Rockland softball all-stars

Rockland County softball in 2026 had another banner year. This year’s all-star team features 10 including a coach who got all-state recognition.

The team is also headlined by two teams who won Section 1 titles – Clarkstown South in Class AAA and Pearl River in Class A – and one that made its first appearance in the NYSPHSAA championship game in 16 years.

Tara Murphy

Rockland Softball Player of the Year

School: North Rockland

Year: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Highlights: The Mercy University bound senior had a strong year and was the leader of the Red Raiders that finished second in Class AAA. In the circle, Murphy had a 15-3. record In 121 2/3 innings pitched, she allowed 27 earned runs, 36 walks, 84 hits and struck out 153 batters for a 2.00 ERA. Murphy has always been a threat at the plate and this season was no different. She finished the season with a .507 batting average, a .581 on base percentage, a .945 slugging percentage and a 1.526 OPS. She had 37 hits, six doubles, four triples, six home runs, seven walks, six doubles, 31 runs scored and 39 RBI. Defensively, she had only one error in 35 chances for a 97.14 fielding percentage.

This season, she garnered All League and All Section honors. Murphy was named the League E Pitcher of the Year. She also earned first team all-state honors in Class AAA.

She shined against some of the top teams in New York State. Against 11 state ranked teams, offensively she went 15-for-35 with a .429 batting average, a .487 on base percentage, a .771 slugging percentage and a 1.258 OPS. She had four home runs, scored 11 runs and had 15 RBI.

Murphy left her mark on the North Rockland softball record books. She’s the all-time RBI leader (101) and has the most RBI in a single season (39). She’s second all time in career home runs (10), home run in a single season (6), all time single season batting average (.506), and in the 100 hit club (105). Murphy is third all-time in single season runs scored with 31.
