A Marion grand jury added six more counts of child sex abuse material to a La Rue man already facing four counts of the same crime.
In April, Phillip Vanscoy, 32, was indicted for four counts of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, a second-degree felony and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. A supplemental indictment was granted with the six additional counts of the second-degree felony.
According to a press release, Marion County investigators are now asking the public for information related to the case.
“There is evidence that Vanscoy may have tried to get involved with local youth groups for inappropriate purposes,” Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan said. “If anyone has any information about that, we urge them to call Detective Katie Barber at the Marion County Sheriff’s office at 740-382-8244.”
Kelle Saull, Vanscoy’s attorney, did not respond to request for comment.
Marion County Sheriff Matt Bayles’ team is leading the investigation, working from a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the release stated.
Vanscoy is on bond awaiting trial. Court records indicate a jury trial is scheduled for October.
