Isaiah Hill may soon have company in 2027 Purdue basketball recruiting class

Purdue men’s basketball’s 2027 recruiting class could double in size within the week.

Kevin Savage, a Marietta (Georgia) Wheeler point guard and priority target, announced a top six teams earlier this week, including the Boilermakers. The four-star, top-50 prospect will announce his decision at 5 p.m. Sunday on 247Sports and CBS Sports HQ.

The 5-foot-11 Savage also listed Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and UCLA in that top six. However, Purdue coach Matt Painter has been widely considered to be in strong position for the top point guard, whose stock has only risen this summer.

Savage made his official visit to Purdue in February. His only other official went to Cincinnati, a school which did not make his top six.

Painter already received a commitment from Pike 7-footer Isaiah Hill to answer the big man need in the class. A commitment from Savage would create more talented depth on a roster which also projects to still feature Omer Mayer and Luke Ertel.

Savage is averaging 20.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.6 assists this summer in adidas 3SSB competition this summer. The second June evaluation period ended Sunday, which means he plans to make this announcement before July’s two evaluation periods.

If Savage locks down the class’ point guard opening, attention will swing back to the frontcourt. One particular prospect has picked up traction there as well.

Ahmed Nur, a 6-8 forward originally from Arizona, made an official visit to West Lafayette last week. Now at Scottsdale (Arizona) Bella Vista Prep, Nur is a four-star, top-40 prospect.

Purdue recently offered Nur, who won MVP honors at the NBPA Top-100 camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina, earlier this month. He averaged 14.8 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 58% from 3-point range.

The Boilermakers were also pursuing Wisconsin Lutheran forward Kager Knueppel. The 6-10 brother of former Duke star Kon Knueppel, another four-star, top-50 prospect, committed to the Blue Devils on Monday night.

Purdue’s 2026 class of Mt. Vernon’s Ertel, La Lumiere’s Rivers Knight and Jacob Webber, Georgetown Prep’s Sinan Huan and Springville, Utah’s Jamyn Sondrup ranked 13th nationally in the Rivals industry rankings.

By average rating, though, 2027 could be one of the more talented signing classes Painter has assembled.
