18 fireworks shows across northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin

ROCKFORD, IL — America turns 250 years old on July 4, 2026, and communities across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin are pulling out all the stops with fireworks shows, parades, concerts and parties to mark the occasion.

Here’s a guide to fireworks shows and celebrations happening in and around the Rockford area.

Davis Junction

What: Celebrate Independence Day with an evening of activities beginning at 5 p.m., including live music by The Breakfast Club until 9 p.m., food vendors, face painting, a beer tent and raffle drawings. The evening concludes with a fireworks display at dusk, followed by an outdoor movie.

When: July 3

Where: Community Park, Davis Junction

Winnebago

What: Celebrate Independence Day with an evening of live music from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Winnebago High School Football Stadium, followed immediately by a fireworks display at dusk.

Where: Winnebago High School Football Stadium, Winnebago, for the July 3 concert and fireworks; parade lineup begins at the Winnebago Middle School parking lot on July 4.

Edgerton, Wis.

What: The Edgerton Lions Club’s annual Fireworks Festival begins at 4 p.m. and features live music, food, refreshments and family activities before a fireworks display at dusk. The event marks the Lions Club’s 85th anniversary and is one of the community’s largest annual fundraisers.

When: July 3

Where: Edgerton Community Park, 1004 Stoughton Road, Edgerton, Wisconsin.

Rockford

What: The Rockford Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular returns with a full day of patriotic festivities. The Lifescape Classic run/walk begins in the morning, followed by the patriotic parade at 4:30 p.m., vendors opening at 4 p.m. along Water Street and the City Market Pavilion, live music beginning at 6 p.m., and a 30-minute fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. launched from the Jefferson Street Bridge. Admission to the Davis Park festival area is a $5 donation. Veterans with military ID and children 5 and younger are admitted free.

Where: Downtown Rockford, including Davis Park, Joe Marino Park and the downtown riverfront.

Durand

What: Celebrate Independence Day with a full day of community events, including the annual Fourth of July Parade at 4 p.m., bounce houses, food trucks and family activities from 6 to 9 p.m. at Durand Schools. The celebration concludes with the Fireworks Extravaganza at dusk. Earlier in the day, the festival also features a 5K, basketball tournament, antique tractor pulls, duck races and more.

Where: Durand Schools, 200 W. South St., Durand, for the evening festivities and fireworks; parade begins at Center Square in downtown Durand.

Kirkland

What: Celebrate Independence Day with the final day of the 78th annual Kirkland Lions Club Fourth of July Festival. The day features a parade, car and tractor show, carnival rides, live music, food vendors, family activities and one of Northern Illinois’ largest fireworks displays at approximately 9:15 p.m. Admission is free.

When: July 4

Where: Franklin Township Park, 250 W. South St., Kirkland.

Byron

What: Gates opening at 5 p.m., followed by a magic show by Zack Percell of TNZ Magic at 5:30 p.m., live music by Tall Expectations at 6:30 p.m., and the fireworks program beginning at approximately 9 p.m. before the fireworks display. Food vendors, family-friendly entertainment and activities will be available throughout the evening.

Where: Byron Dragway, 7287 N. River Road, Byron.

Rochelle

What: Celebrate Independence Day with food vendors and live music beginning at 4 p.m. at Atwood Park. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of family fun before a fireworks display at approximately 9:30 p.m. The city’s annual Independence Day parade steps off earlier in the day at 11 a.m. through downtown Rochelle.

Where: Parade in downtown Rochelle; evening festivities at Atwood Park, 10th Avenue and 20th Street, Rochelle.

Mount Morris

What: One of Northern Illinois’ longest-running Fourth of July festivals. The day includes the Fireman’s Breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., a patriotic program at 12:30 p.m., the ringing of the Illinois Freedom Bell at 1 p.m., the annual parade at 2 p.m., a Kable Concert Band performance at 8 p.m., and fireworks. Food vendors, craft vendors and family activities are offered throughout the day.

When: July 4

Where: Village Square Campus and downtown Mount Morris, with evening festivities and fireworks behind D.L. Rahn Junior High School, 105 W. Brayton Road.

Galena

What: Celebrate Independence Day with live entertainment, food and beverages beginning at 2 p.m. at Green Street Plaza. The annual parade steps off at 5:30 p.m. along Main Street before the evening concludes with fireworks over the Galena River at dusk.

When: July 4 

Where: 101 Green St., Galena.

Beloit, Wis.

What: The annual celebration starts at 7:00 p.m and features a performance by the Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., followed by fireworks.

Where: Harry Moore Pavilion at Riverside Park, 1160 Riverside Drive, Beloit.

Lake Geneva, Wis.

What: This free community event is from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Flat Iron Park. The evening features food vendors and family entertainment from 5 to 9 p.m., live music by EZFM from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and a drone light show over Geneva Lake at 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Where: Flat Iron Park, 201 Wrigley Drive, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Milton, Wis.

What: The final day of Milton’s four-day Independence Day celebration features the annual parade at 1 p.m. through downtown, followed by live music, food vendors, family activities and the Rhythm & Booms fireworks show at dusk. The festival also includes a softball tournament, carnival rides and other community events throughout the weekend.

When: July 4

Where: Schilberg Park, 301 W. High St., Milton, Wisconsin.

DeKalb

What: Celebrate Independence Day with free family activities beginning at 5:30 p.m., including food vendors, DJ entertainment and the DeKalb Municipal Band’s “Star Spangled Spectacular” concert at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with a fireworks display at approximately 9:30 p.m.

When: July 4

Where: Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb.

Shabbona

What: Celebrate Independence Day with a full day of events beginning with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., followed by a craft and vendor fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Purdy Park. Kids and family activities run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a parade at noon, bingo from 1 to 2:30 p.m., a cornhole tournament at 1:30 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.

When: July 4

Where: Purdy Park and Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona.

Dixon

What: The 62nd annual Petunia Festival returns with four days of live music, carnival rides, food vendors, family activities, a parade, contests and community events along the riverfront. The festival concludes with a free fireworks display over the Rock River at 9:30 p.m.

When: July 5

Where: Downtown Dixon and the riverfront, including 77 S. Hennepin Ave., Dixon.

Crystal Lake

What: Spend the day at Main Beach before enjoying a free concert by the Crystal Lake Community Band and Voices in Harmony beginning at 7 p.m. The evening concludes with one of the area’s largest fireworks displays at dusk. Main Beach opens at 9 a.m., the Crystal Lake Independence Day Parade steps off at 1 p.m., and fireworks-only admission is $5 per person beginning at 2:30 p.m. Children younger than 3 are admitted free.

Freeport

What: The annual Tutty Baker Festival returns July 10-12 with three days of live music, carnival rides, food vendors, family activities, a parade, a 5K and more in downtown Freeport. The festival’s fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, launching from the Pecatonica River near the Freeport Boat Ramp and visible throughout downtown.

Where: Downtown Freeport, with fireworks launching near the Pecatonica River Boat Ramp, Freeport.
