The Houston Rockets are running it back with JD Davison.
Houston officially picked up the team option on the 23-year-old guard Monday, ensuring he’ll stay with the Rockets after his contract was converted to a standard deal at the end of the season. Davison had a small role in his first season with Houston, averaging only 7.8 minutes per game.
Over 28 games last season, the backup guard averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 assists per game, shooting 37.5% from the field and 25% from three.
As deep a reserve role as Davison played last season, he could be buried even further on the Rockets’ bench next season with the return of the injured Fred VanVleet, who missed the entire season with a torn right ACL and meniscus.
Houston also drafted former Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton in the second round and has been linked to Los Angeles Lakers free agent guard Marcus Smart in free agency.
