Lubbock police arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with a June 13 shooting at a nightclub in Central Lubbock that sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Cesar Ledezma was booked Sunday into the Lubbock County Detention Center on multiple charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm in a municipality.
Police officials said more charges are pending, according to a news release.
Jail records indicate Ledezma, a Mexican national who is also on an immigration hold, was arrested in the 500 block of 53rd Street.
He was arrested after he called police to his him complaining that people have threatened to shoot him, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Ledezma reportedly told a responding officer that he had shot at people through his window earlier that day. He reportedly said he heard people in his home, grabbed a handgun and shot through a wall in fear for his life.
He believed thieves stole about $3,500 and shotgun from him.
Meanwhile, Ledezma’s mother told the officer that she was asleep when she was awoken by the gunshot. She told the officer that her son said he heard tapping on the window before firing his gun.
The responding officer found what he believed to be a bullet hole in the wall of his room and a bullet casing on the floor by his bed.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Ledezma shot downwards at a home on the east end of the house, but it as uncertain if the house was struck, the warrant states.
Ledezma’s mother also told the officer that she believed the shotgun her son reported stolen had been missing for months, the warrant states.
According to the warrant, The officer noted that he was familiar with Ledezma, who he said suffers from a mental health issue that manifests in delusions and often calls the police about his ex-girlfriend having sex in alley with another man.
Ledezma, who was convicted in February of a state jail felony count of theft, was also arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for discharging a firearm in a municipality, a class A misdemeanor.
He also has a warrant for his arrest on a state jail felony theft out of Hockley County, according to jail records.
Meanwhile, a Lubbock police news release identified Ledezma as a suspect in a June13 investigation into a shooting about 2:10 a.m. at a nightclub in the 5000 block of South Avenue Q.
In that case, responding officers found 43-year-old Antonio Flores with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center, where he still remains, according to police officials.
Information on how Ledezma was identified as a suspect or what motivated the shooting was not immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
