Beginning in September, the Amarillo Globe-News recognized some of the top high school performances by soliciting nominations and naming finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.
Weekly voting lasted throughout the school year and produced 35 Athletes of the Week.
Now readers will have a chance to choose from those honorees to name a Happy State Bank Fan Favorite High School Athlete of the Year.
Voting is broken down over multiple weeks beginning June 1 and will run Monday through Thursday each week, alternating weeks between boys finalists and girls finalists.
This kicks off the final round of voting for boys high school athlete of the year after eight finalists emerged from the multiple weeks of voting.
Amarillo High’s Landon Barker (3,939) led voting in the second round of voting, followed by Canadian’s Joseph Dominguez (3,726).
Voting totals have reset each week and the top finisher this week will be dubbed the Happy State Fan Favorite Bank Boys High School Athlete of the Year for 2025-26.
The athletes represent schools of every size across the area.
Each athlete is listed in order of votes received in the last round of voting. The final round of the Happy State Bank girls high school athlete of the year will begin Monday, July 6.
