Abilene police identify man struck by train and killed

A 49-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a train just after 2 a.m. Saturday just after 2 a.m. Saturday, police said in a media release.

The pedestrian was killed in the 1900 block of South First Street near the Sayles Boulevard crossover, police said.

Initial reports are that the man was on the tracks when he was hit by the train, police said.

The conductor from the Union Pacific Train traveling through Abilene called police dispatch to report the train had struck someone police said. 

The victim was identified as Johnny Burchfield of Abilene, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
