LOOK: Jaxon-Smith Njigba receives gold shield for Seahawks jersey

To the victors go the spoils — or so everyone always says. Former Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a massive breakout year with the Seattle Seahawks last season, leading the league in receiving yards and helping lead his team to a Super Bowl 60 victory to cap it all off.

Because of that, not only did Smith-Njiba join all other former Ohio State players winning a Super Bowl, but he also received a gold patch to place on his jersey for the season for winning the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year. If you are wondering why you have never heard of such a thing, that’s because the NFL only implemented providing gold shields for the five major award winners two seasons ago.

You too can get a look at this shield that Smith-Njigba will don on his jersey all season, thanks to the social media pages of the Seahawks.

Smith-Njigba isn’t the only player who will wear the gold shield. AP winners of MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Rookie of the Year will all be wearing a literal badge of honor.
