After a grocery giveaway promotion left frustrated Aldi fans questioning the legitimacy and logistics, the company is adding another larger online giveaway to end the week.
Aldi is increasing the number of the mystery grocery bundles available to 5,000 today.
The grocer had offered the chance to win themed Aldi Blind Boxes filled with food through the website aldiblindbox.com, with the freebies being released at noon Eastern time June 22-25.
Today’s offering of the Aldi Encore Blind Box is a response to backlash on social media from shoppers who endured long waits for checkout, even though the boxes were claimed within seconds.
Hundreds of thousands tried to claim the boxes at the launch — most unaware that there were only about 100 boxes available each day.
Many complained that after the initial wait times ended, the timers reset to extend the wait periods, and when those expired, they were told the boxes were no longer available.
“Based on fan demand, we’re here with an encore. That’s right, we are releasing 5,000 more Blind Boxes on Friday, June 26,” the company said on social media.
What’s in the new Aldi Blind Box giveaway?
The Encore Box will include an assortment of non-perishable products featured in the other grocery Blind Boxes, including snacks, fiber and protein foods.
“Think of it as the greatest hits version, bringing together a little bit of everything from each drop,” the low-cost grocer said.
“And if this week taught us anything, supplies may not last very long.”
Aldi tips to get a free grocery Blind Box
The company shared “insider tips” on how to improve the chances of getting one of the boxes.
Among the tips provided: “Hit ‘Claim an ALDI Box” the second the clock hits” the time of the drop.
If a shopper is directed to a checkout queue, that means all of the boxes have already been claimed, Aldi said.
