Actress and 2026 George Eastman Award recipient Octavia Spencer will participate in an onstage talk in the Dryden Theatre prior to an 8 p.m. July 16 screening of “Hidden Figures.”
Based on a true story, the 2016 film follows three Black women who were the mathematical brains behind NASA during the 1960s Space Race, a time when the agency’s offices were segregated by race. Spencer’s portrayal of Dorothy Vaughn earned her an Oscar nomination.
Museum members will be able to buy tickets ($50) beginning at 10 a.m. June 29 at at eastman.org. Remaining tickets will be sold to the general public on the website starting at 10 a.m. July 1.
George Eastman Award
Spencer will accept the George Eastman Award for her distinguished contributions to the art of cinema during a ceremony at 8 p.m. July 17, also in the Dryden. It will include an appreciation of her career, a compilation of highlights of her work and an onstage conversation with her, followed by a gala in the museum.
Tickets ($125, $175, $250 and $400) may be purchased at eastman.org/eastmanaward2026.
Spencer’s breakthrough performance as Minny in “The Help” (2011) won her a best supporting actress Oscar as well as Golden Globe, BAFTA Award and SAG awards.
She also was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role in “The Shape of Water” (2017).
