Juvenile arrested after standoff in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE – A juvenile suspect was taken into custody following a standoff in Cambridge June 24.

Cambridge police officers first received a call for an incident on South Eighth Street around 3:30 p.m. One man reported that he had been robbed and hit with a pistol, Cambridge Police Chief Dave Peoples told the TR.

As officers started investigating, they learned that the suspect might be located on Madison Avenue. Authorities moved to a residence on the 600 block and contained the scene, Peoples explained.

The suspect initially refused to exit the building, Peoples said. Then, the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Response Team (SRT) arrived and mobilized two drones into the apartment unit.

SRT members made visual confirmation of the suspect using the drones. In the meantime, officers had approached and breached a window into the building. The suspect was then quickly apprehended and taken into custody without incident, Peoples confirmed.

A search warrant was later executed, and evidence was collected, Peoples shared. The minor is now awaiting charges.
