Columbus police have identified a driver who died after a high-speed, head-on crash with a dump truck June 22 on the city’s Southeast Side.
Bristan Babbs, 20, of Columbus, died in the crash at the intersection of Refugee Road and Winchester Pike, police said in a June 25 news release.
Babbs was driving a GMC Yukon south on Winchester Pike at 2:40 p.m. when the SUV ran over a concrete median and crashed into a northbound dump truck that was turning west onto Refugee Road, police said in a crash report.
Witnesses told police Babbs was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red light before the crash, according to a crash report. The driver of the dump truck told police he had a green arrow when he began to turn.
Police said in the news release it remains unclear why the crash happened, and it remains under investigation.
