Lamar Jackson: Former Bears OC Declan Doyle is 'mind-blowing'

When Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson assembled his first coaching staff, he included an array of veterans and up-and-comers who helped define a magical 2025 season. With the success of the Bears offense, first-time offensive coordinator Declan Doyle was hired away by the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, where he gets a chance to call plays and implement his own offense.

While Johnson gets most of the credit for Chicago’s success, and rightfully so, Doyle played a key role for the offense and his work with quarterback Caleb Williams, which earned him a well-earned promotion with Baltimore. The 30-year-old offensive coordinator will now get to implement what he learned from Johnson and work with another explosive quarterback in two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, who discussed his “mind-blowing” first impression of this new offense.

“It’s a different system than what I’m accustomed to being in, and I feel like there’s going to be a lot of explosiveness this year,” Jackson said, via Sleeper NFL. “His creativity, how detailed he is, it’s mind-blowing. I’m excited.”

With Doyle now in Baltimore, the Bears internally promoted Press Taylor to the offensive coordinator role after one year as passing game coordinator, where he’ll get a chance at redemption at OC. Taylor previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2022-24, before he was fired.

Johnson has discussed his hope for assistant coaches to climb the ranks and get promotions, even if it means losing a talented coach on his staff. Doyle was the first, but he likely won’t be the last.
