Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened — at least that’s the mentality that Michigan basketball fans might need to try to take.
On the heels of winning a national championship and traversing much of the media ecosphere discussing the trajectory of the Wolverines in the upcoming seasons, just like that, the maize and blue are about to lose yet another coach to the NBA in a completely untimely fashion.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, head coach Dusty May, who has been awaiting a finalized contract extension, will not sign it after all, as he will be taking the open Dallas Mavericks job.
This is relatively similar in timing (and brunt) of John Beilein departing in late spring 2019 for the Cleveland Cavaliers job. May had been vocal about not wanting to be anywhere but Ann Arbor for the foreseeable, but as it turns out, he was wooed by an NBA job.
May was in Ann Arbor for two seasons and won the national championship this past year. More on this story as it develops.
