Braves 2, Brewers 1: Atlanta gets to The Miz in the sixth inning

ATLANTA – It’s going to be must-see TV on Friday night, June 19, as the Milwaukee Brewers begin a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (8-2, 1.34) seeks to continue his incredible run as he starts for the Brewers against Braves left-hander Martín Pérez (5-3, 2.90).

The Braves finally get to The Miz

A leadoff infield single by Jorge Mateo started the trouble in the sixth, then with one out Ozzie Albies lined a single to right.

Matt Olson followed by winning a nine-pitch battle with Misiorowski and walking to load the bases. Misiorowski nearly came all the way back by striking out Dominic Smith and then getting ahead of Mauricio Dubon, 1-2.

But the ex-Brewers prospect then lined a 101.3-mph fastball into left to score a pair and give Atlanta the lead at 2-1.

The two runs were equal to what Misiorowski had allowed over his previous eight starts, and it marked the first time since April 25 a team scored two runs in a single inning against him.

There was some bad offensive luck mixed in for the Brewers in the top of the inning when William Contreras walked and Garrett Mitchell singled only for Andrew Vaughn to line out at 105.9 mph to Mateo at shortstop for an easy double play.

Blake Perkins then struck out.

The Brewers strike first

Perkins opened the third inning with an infield single, then two batters later Joey Ortiz singled to center. After a Christian Yelich groundout, the Braves elected to put Jackson Chourio on for the lefty-lefty matchup with Brice Turang.

Bad move, as Turang rolled a single through the infield and into center for a 1-0 Brewers lead.

Contreras then flew out to right, keeping the rally at only a run.

The Braves, meanwhile, threatened against Misiorowski in the second when Smith led off with a bloop single and two batters later Austin Riley bounced a single into right.

Misiorowski responded by getting Mike Yastrzemski to ground out and then threw consecutive 104-mph fastballs to strike out Eli White and strand the runners at second and third.

Brewers record

45-27, first place in NL Central.
