No position is better insurance for a quarterback than a great left tackle. That was exactly what Elijah Paige was last season for Jayden Maiava at USC. In the Big Ten, pass rushers come at a premium, and Paige will be in charge of keeping Maiava upright versus the best of the best.
In a recent article, Aiden Checketts takes a look at the impact tackle Elijah Paige will have on Jayden Maiava’s success this season. Here is what he had to say about Paige:
“Standing at 6-7 and 320 pounds, Paige has a solid frame that should be able to hold up against almost any defensive lineman he competes against. With that in mind, Maiava could have more confidence than he can rely on Paige to protect his blindside.
If Paige can continue to develop as a pass blocker, he has a tremendous opportunity to not just be one of the better left tackles in the Big Ten, but could potentially be one of the more consistent offensive linemen in the entire country, which could give Maiava the confidence he needs to excel for USC.”
Paige held his own last season, but there is still more room to grow for the promising left tackle. If he fully irons out his game and he takes that leap, he will ensure Jayden Maiava has the season he is supposed to have this upcoming season. If Paige keeps Maiava right and he has a good season, I expect him to be looked at as a top prospect in this next draft. A great Paige season is good for everyone involved.
