A national writer for CBS Sports expects Michigan State football to be even worse than last year.
Brad Crawford of CBS Sports has predicted Michigan State to take some lumps during the first season under new head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Crawford has released his game-by-game predictions for every Big Ten team this upcoming season, and he has the Spartans finishing even worse than last year.
Crawford’s official prediction for Michigan State is 3-9 overall and 1-8 in Big Ten play for this upcoming season. Crawford has the Spartans starting the year 2-0 with wins over Toledo and Eastern Michigan, but then winning only one of their final 10 games from there. That lone win is over Northwestern at home, meaning they’ll end the season on a five-game losing streak.
As Spartan fans know, Michigan State finished last season 4-8 overall and 1-8 in Big Ten play. The Spartans opened the year 3-0 before losing eight straight games until the season finale win over Maryland. It appears Crawford is expecting a similar tough season for the Spartans this year.
I will politely disagree with Crawford’s prediction as I would be shocked if Michigan State failed to win at least four games this year and match last year’s output. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen, but I personally have much higher expectations for the Spartans this upcoming season.
