Noreen Pappas in Commerce Township is this week’s winner of The Detroit News Garden Photo Contest. She says of her “Feels Like Summer” garden that she “spends hours tweaking my extensive gardens on almost 4 acres. There are many beautiful hydrangeas, tons of perennials, roses, Japanese maples, just to name a few. I’ve planted over 40 varieties this year. Many, many plants!” Through Aug. 17 at noon, you’ll be able to enter pictures of your garden (shots from this year only, please) and winners will be named every week through Aug. 21. Weekly winners will receive a home or garden book. Those winners will then compete for the grand prize — a $200 VISA gift card — through online voting by Homestyle readers. A winner will be announced Sept. 11. Check Welcome Mat on June 26 for the next weekly winner. For entry instructions and rules, go to https://detroitnews.com/gardenphoto26.

In addition, attendees can also enjoy garden artists, musical entertainment, a garden shoppe, MSU Master Gardener information tables and more. Tickets will be available on tour days for $20. Honeybee Hangouts at the Rochester Hills Museum

Get buzzing with Honeybee Hangouts at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. June 25. This family-friendly program explores the world of bees with a visit to the museum hives. Attendees can also try on a beekeeper’s outfit, learn about the bee life cycle and sample local honey. Take home a beeswax candle kit and enjoy a guest appearance from their local beekeepers. Please avoid wearing hairspray, fragrance or scented lotion as this will attract bees during the visit to the hives. Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The location is 1005 Van Hoosen Road. Go to rochesterhills.org/museum.

Sink a putt at one of nine custom-designed, art-inspired holes on the grounds of the museum next to Triton Pools. Golfers also receive free admission to Cranbrook Art Museum galleries. On Father’s Day, dads or another designated adult play for free. Thursday nights, the course and museum are open until 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for ArtMembers and Detroit residents and $8 for children under 12. This year, the museum will also offer ice cream at its Fika café, which is open during gallery hours and serves coffee, drinks and snacks. Go to cranbrookartmuseum.org.
