This summer may be a good time to experience the latest drink trend: the dirty soda.
What is a dirty soda?
A dirty soda is a non-alcoholic beverage crafted with soda, flavored syrup, a splash of creamer and pebble ice, according to the Food Network. It can be enhanced with fruit and spiced up with colorful and unique flavors such as lime or coconut.
“They are very different and it [dirty soda] varies from different shops because of the ingredients they use,” said Ulrich Trunkel, a employee in Kewaskum at Fizzy Pop Ice Cream Shop, which his parents own.
According to Food & Wine, dirty sodas originated by the Mormon community as a customizable drink that uses all the ingredients allowed in their community, as the consumption of coffee and tea are prohibited, but soda is allowed. These drinks were introduced on “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” And dirty sodas became a hit.
Because it’s made of using a soda as a base, syrup, cream and fruit is often added, according to Food & Wine, you can ask coffee shops and eateries if they can make a drink of your choice, if they have the ingredients.
