Charvarius Ward’s Colts tenure

This will be Ward’s second season with the team. During the 2025 offseason, he signed a three-year deal with Indianapolis worth $54 million.

Recapping Charvarius Ward’s 2025 season

Unfortunately, injuries kept Ward sidelined last season. He suffered three separate concussions and landed on injured reserve twice. This led to Ward contemplating his NFL future early in the offseason.

On the field, Ward was excellent. In seven games, he allowed a completion rate of 57% on 37 targets with seven pass breakups, according to Pro Football Focus. When available, the Lou Anarumo defense operated differently and was more aggressive with Ward’s ability to lock down half the field as a coverage defender.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season for Charvarius Ward

When speaking with the media during offseason programs, Ward said he is “in a much better space” entering the 2026 season.

“Now, I’m happy and I’m grinding, and I’m feeling much better physically,” Ward said, via Colts.com.

The Colts boast one of the top cornerback duos in football between Ward and Sauce Gardner, which should make moving the ball against this Indianapolis secondary a tall task for opponents.

That combination of Ward and Gardner gives Anarumo ample flexibility as he builds out his game plans, impacting how he utilizes other position groups. Ward and Gardner’s impact on this Colts’ defense will go beyond the stat sheet. Their presence can have a ripple effect to the other nine defenders on the field.
