Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 will be the 15th race on NASCAR’s 26-race regular season. It’s the third televised race in a five-week run for Amazon Prime.

Michigan has been on the NASCAR schedule since 1969, the year after it opened.

Through 2020, it was host to two Cup races each year, but has been a once-a-year Cup host since 2021. Several NASCAR Hall of Famers have had periods of Michigan dominance over the years, including David Pearson and Bill Elliott.

Most recently, Kevin Harvick was the man to beat. He won five times in seven starts between 2018-22. Three different drivers have won in the past three years: Chris Buescher, Tyler Reddick and Denny Hamlin.

While the industry generally considers this a “Detroit” race and therefore a home game for the big auto manufacturers, the track is actually located in Brooklyn, some 80 miles west of Detroit.
