What will weather be like for the Belmont Stakes?

Rain moves into the forecast for Saturday, with a 70% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon MDT and a high near 87 for the day.

What El Paso Times sports reporter Felix Chavez has to say about the race

Golden Tempo secured history when his last-to-first win in the Kentucky Derby made trainer Cherie DeVaux the first woman to train a Derby winner. I loved this horse’s strong finish and I love the story of DeVaux. Golden Tempo didn’t run in the Preakness Stakes and will be fresh for the Belmont.

Renegade was second in the Kentucky Derby and like Golden tempos, skipped the Preakness, with trainer Todd Pletcher opting to train the colt up to the Belmont. The Belmont Stakes could set up for an exciting finish like Kentucky Derby. Renegade won the Sam F. Davis Stakes and the Arkansas Derby prior to the Kentucky Derby.

For third, I like Chief Wallabee, who is a serious threat for the win. Has great connections with jockey Junior Alvarado and trainer Bill Mott. Mott and Alvarado won the 2025 Belmont Stakes with Sovereignty. Chief Wallabee placed fourth in the Kentucky Derby.
