Warriors' Stephen Curry reportedly set to meet with LeBron James

With NBA free agency almost upon us, all eyes will be on the future of LeBron James and where he may land for what could be the final season of an illustrious career. Of course, Golden State Warriors fans will undoubtedly be dreaming of a potential team-up between James and Stephen Curry, as they have for decades. The thing is, this summer is arguably the best chance Curry and James have ever had to try and team up and chase a championship.

After all, James is entering unrestricted free agency. There are rumblings that he won’t return to the Los Angeles Lakers for another season next to Luka Doncic, and the Warriors could create enough cap space to offer James the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception, valued at roughly $15.1 million.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Curry is now planning on meeting with James in the coming weeks, in what could be part of a wider recruitment pitch to bring the aging superstar to the Bay Area.

“League sources telling us at ClutchPoints that the Warriors are very much open to pursuing LeBron James and they plan to do so this offseason in free agency,” Siegel said during a recent episode of ‘Clutch Scoops.’ “… LeBron James, at the end of his career, he could still contribute at a high level; we saw that in the playoffs. Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors look to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful; it seemed low percentage; now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency.”

Adding James, even at this point of his career, would be a major boost for the Warriors. He would slot perfectly next to Curry and Draymond Green. Furthermore, it wouldn’t force the Warriors to part with Jimmy Butler, who is recovering from a torn ACL. Golden State would have a veteran-laden roster, all pulling toward winning one final championship.

However, if the Lakers opt to try and keep James in Los Angeles, they will be able to offer the best financial package. As such, James’ future remains a mystery, but after multiple years of situations like this, we’ve come to expect nothing less.
