SHEBOYGAN – Jelly-filled donuts, crullers and Long Johns are some of community members’ favorites donuts.
Several Sheboygan County bakeries received shoutouts on social media — West Side Bakery for éclairs and jelly-filled donuts; City Bakery for cherry fritters; and Roeck’s Bakery for cream-filled donuts. Sunday Dough, Oostburg Bakery and Hartman’s Bakery in Plymouth were also favorites.
Found at grocery stores, gas stations and local bakeries, here are some of readers’ other favorite places to get donuts in Sheboygan in honor of National Donut Day on June 5 (or any day, really).
Johnston’s Bakery and Kwik Trip for fillings, freshness
Johnston’s Bakery, 1227 Superior Ave., received some recognition for its donuts.
Jack Martin said his go-to order is a dozen cream- or jelly-filled donuts and a dozen Long Johns without nuts. Here’s what else he said about Johnston’s Bakery:
They are open early, so I can easily get a baker’s dozen early in the morning to treat my colleagues at work in the IT department. Some of us are fueled by donuts LOL! My personal favorite is anything at Johnston’s that is cream or jelly filled which has the perfect filling-to-donut ratio!
Steve Hangartner’s favorite place to get donuts is either Johnston’s Bakery or Kwik Trip. Here’s what else Hangartner said:
They both are good and have their unique donut offerings with different fillings and finished textures and flavors. Maybe I favor Kwik Trip because they are always fresh with excellent texture and flavor and so convenient. Johnston’s is also a top-quality Sheboygan donut and coffee stop. When it comes to treating co-workers in the past, Johnston’s was always the co-workers’ first choice. So, they are a toss up.
John Revelis said Johnston’s Bakery has the best donuts, especially crullers. Revelis said Kwik Trip’s maple Long John donuts are second best.
Pick N Save for dough, glaze and variety
Barbara Abler said Pick N Save, 1317 N. 25th St., has the best donuts.
“They absolutely have the best dough, flavor, glaze, fillings and variety,” Abler said. “Plus, they are fresh, which gives them that special taste.”
