Menasha’s next superintendent will be one of three education leaders from northeastern Wisconsin, the district announced in a news release June 2.
Menasha schools worked with their local Cooperative Educational Service Agency to find and narrow down their search to three finalists, the news release said. The three candidates are Waupun district administrator Steve Hill, Seymour middle school principal Lucas Lechnir, and Green Bay director of secondary education Dan Slowey.
Hill has been the district administrator for Waupun School District since 2018. He’s also been the principal of Woodworth Middle School in Fond du Lac, where he led continuous improvement initiatives for teachers.
Lechnir has been the principal at Seymour Middle School since 2022. He’s also been an associate principal at Lombardi Middle School and Preble High School in Green Bay and a physical education teacher and athletic director.
Slowey has been the Green Bay director of secondary education since 2023, where he has led initiatives that were focused on “college and career readiness and equity,” according to the news release. He’s also had principal and associate principal roles at schools in Pulaski and Kimberly.
After meeting and interviewing the candidates June 8, the Board of Education hopes to choose the final candidate by mid-June with a July 1 start date. This candidate will replace Matt Zimmerman, who has served as Menasha’s superintendent for three years. He announced his resignation in April effective June 30.
According to records from the Department of Public Instruction, Zimmerman’s salary in 2026 was $195,090, with fringe benefits he received valued at $42,022.
