The Los Angeles Rams have put themselves in position to contend for another Super Bowl in 2026, building a roster with no clear holes. They shored up the secondary, hope to have fixed their shaky special teams and returned every starter on the league’s top offense from 2025.
If there’s one thing they could use now, it’s some veteran leadership on what’s a very young defense – a group that Jared Verse admitted was somewhat lost when the Seattle Seahawks started moving the ball on them in the NFC title game.
Von Miller is still a free agent and at 37 years old, he’s planning to play in 2026.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m playing, I’m playing for sure,” Miller said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN this week. “I had nine sacks last year. … I’m not on my last flame, this year, hopefully I’m not in my last year, but if it is, I want to go out showing guys what I got.”
Miller said he’s lobbied for the Broncos to bring him back, but what if he reunites with another team he won a Super Bowl with? The Rams can offer him the chance to chase a third championship as a key member of a loaded defense that features Jared Verse and Byron Young at outside linebacker.
With those two already locked in as the starters, Miller would be a situational pass rusher who could get on the field in subpackages alongside Verse and Young. It would be something of a NASCAR package for the Rams on third downs, which we saw at times last year with Josaiah Stewart.
By no means do the Rams desperately need pass-rush help, especially after seeing the promise of Stewart as a rookie last season, but Miller’s championship pedigree and experience could help come playoff time. He knows what it takes to win rings, and it was evident the last time he played for the Rams in 2021; that year, he brought the Lombardi Trophy into the locker room during the playoffs to show his teammates what they’re working for.
According to Pro Football Focus, Miller had 36 pressures and 10 sacks last season for the Commanders after notching 40 pressures and six sacks the year prior. Even at 37, he can be an effective situational pass rusher, so long as he’s OK playing behind Verse and Young.
It would also benefit both of those young edge rushers to have someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Miller is.
