The first-place Milwaukee Brewers kick off a three-game series against the team right below them in the National League Central Division standings, the St. Louis Cardinals, in a Memorial Day matinee on May 25.
The Brewers send right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (4-2, 1.89) to the mound where he’ll face left-hander Matthew Liberatore (2-2, 4.70).
What a start for the Brewers
Misiorowski came out firing on all cylinders, with each of his first six pitches registering at least 103 mph before he eventually walked JJ Wetherholt.
His next six pitches generated two swinging strikeouts, then he broke Jordan Walker’s bat on his first pitch to the rightfielder.
Jackson Chourio led off the bottom of the frame with a walk and then was picked off first base by Liberatore, only to be ruled safe at second base after Tripp Gibson’s out call was overturned by a Milwaukee challenge.
Good thing for the Brewers, too, as William Contreras singled him in a few pitches later and then Christian Yelich followed with a two-run homer to left to make a 3-0 first-inning lead.
Misiorowski then threw nine more pitches in the triple digits in the second inning, giving him 20 through the first two. He threw a total of 20 in six innings in his previous start against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
