It was a banner day for area middle school track athletes.
Competing in the Ohio High School Athletic Association seventh and eight grade state track and field championships on May 16, several athletes seven athletes brought home state titles with two winning two individual crowns and one earning an individual and a relay championship.
Lucas eighth grader TJ Wojciechowski won the Middle School B state championship in the 100-meter dash with an 11.40 and also took home the title in the 200-meter dash with a 22.71.
Galion eighth grader Darian Clemons won the Middle School B state championship in the 400-meter dash with a 50.60 before joining teammates Jakarian Washington, Cooper Sallee and Parker Swaim on the winning 4×100-meter relay team that clocked a 44.71.
Mansfield’s Adayaleise Trumpower won a Middle School B state championship in the 800-meter run with a blistering time of 2:18.21 and also cruised to a 1,600-meter state title with a 5:08.18.
Ontario’s Hudsyn Pelphrey won the Middle School B state championship in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet.
