Croutons sold under the Kroger brand have been recalled over concerns that they may be contaminated.
Sugar Foods LLC, of Westlake Village, California, is recalling some lots of Kroger croutons due to the potential for salmonella contamination in one of the ingredients – milk powder – according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recall notice. Salmonella can cause serious or fatal infections in some people.
This recall follows a third-party supplier-initiated one by California Dairies, Inc., which supplied the milk powder to Solina USA. That company produces the seasoning blend Sugar Foods applies to the croutons.

The recall affects the following product:
The products were distributed to Kroger stores between March 7 and April 7.
Recalled products might have sold in Appleton area
The croutons were sold in 17 states including Wisconsin. There are seven Pick ‘n Save stores, which sell Kroger products, in the area.
Appleton-area stores possible affected by the recall include 511 W. Calumet St. and 2700 N. Ballard Road in Appleton, 2400 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Grand Chute, N135 Stoney Brook Road in Buchanan and 828 Fox Point Plaza and 1530 S. Commercial St. in Neenah.
What is salmonella?
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms usually include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.
