Galesburg weekend events include 'Twister,' Hank Williams, dancing

The weekend brings Sidewalk Sales on Seminary, “100 Years of Hank Williams” and dance improvisation, along with live music and more to the Galesburg area.

Anniversary Film Series: Twister

What: Come to the 30th anniversary showing of “Twister.” During the approach of the most powerful storm in decades, university professor Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and an underfunded team of students prepares the prototype for Dorothy, a ground-breaking tornado data-gathering device conceived by her estranged husband, Bill (Bill Paxton). When Harding tells Bill that Dorothy is ready for testing — and that their privately funded rival Dr. Jonas Miller (Cary Elwes) has stolen the idea and built his own — Bill rejoins the team for one last mission.

Nature at Night: Summer Family Fun

What: Play some simple outdoor games and talk about summertime fun that can be had by all at home or at nearby places to visit. This event is geared toward adults and families (elementary age and older), but all ages are welcome. 

When: 6:30-8 p.m. May 22

Where: Lakeside Nature Center, 1033 S. Lake Storey Road, Galesburg

Cost: $5; $15 per family

Knox College Choir Spring Concert

What: Knox College Choir presents its spring term concert, “Words Between Us.” As friends, family, strangers, and humans, we have the need for interpersonal communication and connection. Each of the pieces you will hear sets text based not only in love, but in raw feeling and emotion.

When: 7:30-8:30 p.m. May 22

Where: Kresge Recital Hall, 500 S. Prairie St., Galesburg

Cost: Free

Family Movement and Dance

What: Create movement, shapes, patterns, gestures and travel through space and time using the body as a paintbrush, clay or melody. Dance Improvisation invites playful exploration of how and why we move, engaging both body and mind. Doors will close at 10:10 a.m. for this class, so please arrive before then.

When: 10-11 a.m. May 23

Where: Galesburg Community Arts Center, 349 E. Main St., Galesburg

Cost: $7

Sidewalk Sales on Seminary

What: Shop small and score big at the Seminary Street Sidewalk Sales. Downtown businesses will line the sidewalks with their wares. Stroll along Seminary Street and explore sidewalk sales and special discounts, decor, clothing, gifts and one-of-a-kind items, pop-up displays from favorite local shops and an open-air shopping experience.

When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. May 23

Where: Seminary Street, downtown Galesburg

Cost: Free admission

Neon Nova

What: Kick off summer with the band Neon Nova as they launch the 2026 season with a full-power outdoor show.

When: 7 p.m. May 23

Where: Big Catz sound garden, 221 E. Main St., Knoxville

100 Years of Hank Williams

What: There is only one Hank Williams…and only one actor who can bring him to life…Jason Petty. Jason is the only actor to portray Hank Williams in New York City’s hit Off Broadway musical, “Lost Highway.” See him perform live on stage in the final show of the 2025-2026 season in “100 Years of Hank.” Jason re-creates such Williams’ hits as “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” and “Hey Good Lookin.’ ” He also pays tribute to stars that influenced Hank and those stars that Hank influenced. Some of these artists include Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, The Carter Family, George Jones, Webb Pierce and more. Jason is backed by an authentic four-piece band.

Tritones Enharmonic Fire and Flute Choir Spring Concert

What: Knox College Music Department presents Enharmonic Fire and TriTones vocal ensembles under the direction of Tyler Demaree and the Flute Choir directed by Madeline Wood together to perform the Spring concert.

Knox String Ensemble Spring Concert

What: Join the Knox String ensemble under the direction of Madalyn Pridemore for the Spring concert.

Jazz Night

What: Come hear the Cherry St Combo for the weekly jazz night. All ages are welcome.
