As the Los Angeles Rams look to improve during offseason training, many hope that the team will add another playmaker to its roster, as the NFL’s annual arms race quickly draws to a close. With an MVP quarterback in Matthew Stafford, there are concerns that the Rams did not do enough on offense, electing to add depth pieces in the draft.
Therefore, some in the media and fans alike have questioned the idea of adding Stefon Diggs to the Rams’ offense. Diggs, a former All-Pro, had a redemptive season with the New England Patriots in 2025. A prime performer, Diggs would join Davante Adams as a consistent threat, allowing the Rams to run an elite 11 personnel package designed around Puka Nacua.
However, there’s one reason the Rams shouldn’t add Diggs: He wouldn’t factor into the offense in a significant way. The Rams tipped their hand last season when they completely ignored Tutu Atwell in the passing attack, using him as a $10 million decoy. Stafford had three targets and he was hitting them with relentless efficiency. Nacua, Adams, and whichever tight end the Rams put on the field were his primary reads.
Colby Parkinson had a career year, Tyler Higbee was excellent when healthy, Davis Allen found the end zone on multiple occasions, and Terrance Ferguson came on late during the year. Sean McVay also used multiple tight end formations to increase their usage, eliminating the need for a WR3.
Diggs simply would not be a major factor as the No. 3 receiver. Ferguson is the future, as is Max Klare. For now, Parkinson and Higbee remain Stafford’s trusted safety valve.
