Springfield police arrest train robber at Amtrak train station

Douglas pled guilty in front of Associate Judge Joshua A. Meyer, who serves on the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois. Douglas was then remanded into the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On April 8, the Springfield Police Department responded to the Amtrak train station for a report that a man with a black mask passed a note to a cafe car attendant that read, “Give me money or I will shoot,” according to a news release from Garrison.

According to the news release, a witness said the male with the mask acted like he had a gun, though it was later determined that Douglas was not carrying a gun.

Douglas was given around $459 in the robbery. The release did not specify who on the train was robbed.

Douglas confessed the crime to the officers, according to the release.

The train was in Macoupin County when the robbery happened.

Robbery is a class 2 felony, which carries a maximum of seven years, but the charge was elevated to a class 1 felony because Douglas acted like he had a gun.
