Brian Flynn resigns after 10 seasons as South Fork boys basketball head coach

South Fork High School will be in search of a new varsity head boys basketball coach, as one of the best coaches in program history has stepped down.

Brian Flynn resigned as the Bulldogs head coach on Tuesday, May 12 after 10 seasons at the helm. He ends his tenure as the program’s second-winningest boys basketball head coach.

“It has been an incredible honor to coach at South Fork,” Flynn said in a statement. “I’m proud of what we accomplished and grateful for the players, coaches, administrators, booster club and the rest of Bulldogs nation, who made it a great experience.”

The decision comes 10 years to the month that Flynn, 61, was promoted to head coach after spending the previous four seasons as South Fork’s junior varsity coach and varsity assistant.

The Bulldogs won 56 percent of their games (133-103 record) after Flynn took over the program, racking up with seven winning seasons.

Flynn and the Bulldogs produced their best campaigns in recent years, with South Fork qualifying for regionals each of the past three seasons. He led the program to back-to-back district titles in 2024 and 2025. Last season, the Bulldogs had a 17-10 record and were the District 13-5A runner-up.

Flynn was named TCPalm’s Boys Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season after the team went 21-6 and reached the regional semifinals.

“I have nothing but respect for the job that Brian has done as a man, as a mentor to students and as a coach,” South Fork athletic director Ed Geiger said. “Some people tread water with teams, but he’s built a solid program based on being a transformational coach. I’ve become good friends with him and I wish him the best of luck. … He’s still a huge part of the Bulldogs family.”

Varsity assistant coach Kevin Kobold has been named the team’s interim head coach.
