Bomb squad stabilizing scene of police-involved shooting in Bucyrus

An armed man who barricaded himself inside a home on Warren Street in Bucyrus is “no longer an active threat,” Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall said.

“Right now, it’s being treated as a police-involved shooting,” Crall said. “Any time an officer fires their weapon, there’s a degree of scrutiny we go through to make sure everything was done properly.”

A bomb squad was stabilizing the scene in the 900 block of East Warren Street as of 1:30 p.m. May 11.

The prosecutor asked that all motorists and pedestrians avoid the neighborhood while detectives investigate the scene.

A press conference has been scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bucyrus City Hall.

The incident began about 3:25 a.m. May 11.

“Heavy police presence remains in the area as officers continue to respond to an armed barricaded suspect situation,” the Bucyrus Police Department stated on social media.

Motorists are reminded to watch for police activity on neighboring streets.

“The safety of the public and responding officers remains our top priority,” police noted. “Additional updates will be released as information becomes available.”
